I just registered a new blog for Mobile Go. I will post any thing related to Mobile Go here. Hopeful it will be the first place where all Mobile Go users like to share their experience with others. I'll also keep updating the status of Mobile Go project, including the port to other platforms.

Mobile Go V2.2 released

Support Power Save Mode.

Can answer incoming call (on Treo) without exists Mobile Go.

Support UNDO during scoring.

Support game title.

Support IGS-specific option NEWRATING.

Add feature to auto save a game when Mobile Go exits or to reload the saved game when Mobile Go starts.

Can remember the Main and Byoyomi time used in last match request.

Give another 15 days of trial period to previouse installation.

Progress of porting Mobile Go to Symbian

The UI that I choose for Symbian is S60 for its tremendous popularity. However it's a matter of easy to say but hard to do. I'm still reading on programming books of Symbian S60. The facts that the screen estate is rather small and there is no pen to input on a S60 cell phone make it quite hard to port Mobile Go from Palm OS. I may have to trade off some features.

Mobile Go移植计划

经过几个月的评估和观望，我决定把Mobile Go先移植到Symbian平台来。原因之一是Symbian有着与Palm OS更为相似的设计理念。二者都是为手持设备专门开发的操作系统，讲究界面直观，操作简单。原因之二是Symbian公司最近提供了免费的开发工具Carbide.c++。它与我已经熟悉的Palm OS Developer Suite一样都是基于著名的Eclipse开发平台，我无需再花时间学习新的开发工具。原因之三是我不喜欢Window Mobile。虽然我老早就有了一部DELL Axim X30（蓝牙+WiFi版），但我从来就没有喜欢过它。除了它可怜的电力让我无法放心外，不胜其繁的点击也让我失去了使用的耐心。
我在今年三月份的时候曾想先移植到Window Mobile平台，因为那时我还在用Palm T2，无法用Palm联上家里的WiFi无线网。七月份的时候我得到了一部Palm Tx，解决了WiFi上网的问题，因此就更没有使用X30的必要，开发Window Mobile版的Mobile Go也就不那么迫切了。我现在手头还没有Symbian手机，但我想很快就会有的。我仍然很喜欢我现在的这部手机（Sony Ericsson的T616），虽然它已经是那么的老旧，但在它的配合下，我的Palm能完成我想做的所有事情。

Introduction
Mobile Go is a client for Internet Go server. You can use it to observe or play games as long as your Palm handheld or mobile phone can access Internet using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPRS/EDGE or Palm Modem. Mobile Go was designed to support most IGS and NNGS commands. It is a common client for many Go servers including popular IGS, NNGS, WING and LGS. Play Go on the go with Mobile Go.
System Requirement
· Handheld with Palm OS 3.0 or higher
· Must support TCP/IP socket
Installation
Download Mobile Go from http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&prodid=120214 . Unzip mobilego.zip to a temp folder, you will find a file mobilego.prc which can be installed by Palm Quick Install. Please see Palm user document for how to install an application using Palm Quick Install.
Registration
Mobile Go is a shareware that you can use all features for free for 30 days. After 30 days trial period expires, you have to buy a register code. You can enter the 10 digits of code via menu Options/About/Register.

PilotGone HiRes version released

I just released PilotGone version 0.9.0. This is a new version supporting HiRes of newer PalmOS handheld. You can download it (including source codes) from here

New Common features:
(a) Highlights current move
(b) Goes to certain move

New HiRes features (hardware must support 320*320 or 320*480, 256 colors, Palm OS 5.0 or later):
(a) Displays nice board and 3D stones
(b) Shows labels in non-zoom view
(c) Displays comments with NO LIMITATION of 1024 bytes
(d) Displays comments in a transparent window that allows user seeing the board and stones underneath
(e) Autoscrolls repeating comments
(f) Pauses/Resumes autoscrolling comments
(g) Displays recallable comments
(h) Supports 5-way navigation for PalmOne devices
(i) Supports N tag (Shows node name in a tranparent window, and indicates by flashing the move description)

I'm testing an new version of PilotGone that basically supports HiRes of newer Palm devices. It's expected to be released within one or two weeks. Following are some of new features:
1. Displays nice board and stones
2. Shows labels in non-zoom view
3. Displays comments with NO LIMITATION of 1024 bytes
4. Displays comments in a transparent window that allows user seeing the board and stones underneath
5. Autoscrolls repeative comments
6. Pauses/Resumes autoscrolling comment
7. Goes to certain movement
8. Supports 5-way navigation for PalmOne devices (center/select key used only at present)
9. Highlights current movement
10. Shows/hides most recent 20 movement number on stones
11. Supports N tag (Shows node name in a tranparent window, and indicates by flashing the move description)
12. Displays recallable comments (To Be Finished)
13. Highlights certain movement(s) (TBF)
14. Moves and resizes comment window (TBF)
15. Maps more hardware keys (TBF)
16. Allows user configuring colors for board, comment text, movement numbers, marks and labels (TBF)

PilotGone Improvement

I'm recently working on PilotGone improvement. One thing I was always thinking to do is to put Hires support. I want nice borad and stones presented. I want to see the labels shown in the board with no need to open the zoom window. I also want to see the comments displayed clearly right above the board instead of open a comment window. And I like to see the comment auto scrolling. Furthermore, I would like to add 5-way navigation to PilotGone.

Following is the screen shots of a scrolling comments (prototype) and labels displayed on board without zoom.

I'm still struggling with if I shoud write the number of movement on stones just like the above snap shot. The reason is I have to figure out which stone is a certain movement mentioned by the comment quite often. The challenge is that I have to build a very tiny font (3 by 4 pixes) for number 0 to 9. They are OK for me to read because I have an excellent vision. But I don't know if others like it or not. The alternative is having a command that highlights a certain movement.

I've put a lot of new stuffs in SgfMan Version 1.1. Most significant changes are SgfMan can launch PilotGOne (a modified version) and it can copy up to 64K of single SGF file to Memo Pad. User interface and performance are also improved.

SgfMan is not well recognized so far by Go enthusiasts because I have never promoted it in any way. However I do believe that it is good software to be loved by Go enthusiasts who are Palm users as well. I will keep updating SgfMan and I will also find a home to host this project.

Regarding PilotGOne. As a Go enthusiast, I would like to say it is the best SGF recorder and viewer for Palm OS in this planet. It is far better than others including some commercial software. I have watched hundreds of professional Go games and death and life problems using PilotGOne. However there is still a room for PilotGOne to be improved. One thing would be loved by Palm users is to support the features of recent handhelds, such as extension card, sound, high density display, blue tooth and wi-fi. I don't think PilotGOne has to be rewritten to support these features, or it won't be able to be used in old model of Palms. The best approach to this goal is to develop some plug-ins .
I would like to contribute a little bit of my time to help PilotGOne project, but first of all I want to make SgfMan better.
